FR / L’art olfactif est une possibilité artistique et esthétique. L’odeur y est employée comme médium et permet ou promet l’expérience. Celle-ci peut émaner de la matérialité des matières utilisées ou d’odeurs créées par des compositions (parfums). On date cet usage du début du XXe avec l’ouverture que propose le nouveau siècle, notamment grâce aux futuristes, aux dadaïstes et à Marcel Duchamp.

En 1913, en Italie, Anton Giulio Bragaglia accroche à la galerie Romagna de Rome, trente photodynamiques accompagnées d’odeurs. Elles caractérisent et complètent ce qui est vu et signent ainsi la première exposition olfactive envisagée comme telle. […] La même année, en 1913, Valentine de Saint-Point, chorégraphe et danseuse, allie musique, danse et senteurs dans une performance intitulée Métachorie, terme qui donnera d’ailleurs son nom à la danse qu’elle invente. »

ENG / Olfactory art is an artistic and aesthetic possibility. The smell is used as a medium and allows or promises the experience. Smell can emanate either from the materiality of the materials used or from odors created by compositions (perfumes). We date this use of smell in art at the beginning of the XXth with the opening that the new century proposes, in particular thanks to the futurists, the dadaists and to Marcel Duchamp.

In 1913, in Italy, Anton Giulio Bragaglia hangs at the Romagna gallery in Rome, thirty photodynamic pictures accompanied by odors. They characterize and complete what is seen and thus sign the first olfactory exhibition considered as such. [The same year, in 1913, Valentine de Saint-Point, choreographer and dancer, combines music, dance and scents in a performance entitled Metachorie, a term that will give its name to the dance she invented.
